Shawnee Swim Club is a private member-owned pool. All requests for access to the pool by people other than members and their invited guests must be made by email to the pool manager at PoolManager@nullshawneeswimclub.org at least 24 hours in advance of the requested time for access.

The last 10 minutes of each hour are set aside for those 18 years and older to use the pool. This gives the children and lifeguards a much-needed break.
Use is restricted to those under 6 years, accompanied by adult or designated person 13 years or older. Diapered babies must wear plastic pants or swim diapers.
Parents may delegate responsibility for their children to a person 13 years of age or older. Parents shall make application to the Board, in writing, for a long-term sitter to accompany their children to the pool. Upon Board approval, this non-member sitter will be allowed to come to the pool with the children without charge and without limitation of number of visits per season. Occasional sitters will be admitted as paying guests of the member family.
The only type of ball that may be used prior to 6 PM is a “splash ball,” cloth-covered foam balls. Tennis balls may not be used at any time, as they may cause injury. Beach balls may be used only after 6 PM or at the discretion of the guard on duty.
Basketball courts are available in the fenced area around the pool.
The club provides chairs for use by the membership. If you move chairs, please return them when you leave. Report damaged chairs to a lifeguard or Pool Manager.
Shawnee Swim Club is a non-smoking facility.
Most children are well behaved and cooperative. On occasion some children disregard rules or the enforcement of these rules is challenged. In these instances, safety is compromised when the guards have to focus on behavior instead of on the pool. Therefore, a misbehaving child may be sent home. The head lifeguard and/or pool manager may suspend anyone from the pool for as much as one week.
Observe rules posted behind the diving boards.

Annual stockholder dues must be postmarked by April 1 to avoid a late fee. Summer transfer requests must be postmarked by March 15 to avoid a late fee. LIMO requests must be postmarked by March 15 to avoid a late fee. (There are a limited number of LIMO slots available; they are issued on a first-come-first-served basis.)

No glass containers are allowed in the pool enclosure. This includes casserole dishes, baby bottles, etc.
Hosting member must accompany and remain with guests at SSC. Each stockholding family is limited to 6 guests per day. In-town guests may visit 4 times per month, regardless with whom they come. Fees are $5. Houseguests who live beyond a 25-mile radius of Blacksburg are not charged or limited in number of visits. Please be sure that you sign guests in and pay for them. Members are responsible for the behavior of their guests and for any damage that a guest may cause.
The club is located on a four-acre lot on the intersection of Tom’s Creek Road and University City Blvd. The land was acquired in 1966 by a fifty-year lease, which was bought out by the Club in 1996. The junior Olympic size pool has six swimming lanes, 25 meters in length, a diving area with two one- meter boards and one three-meter board and a special area two feet in depth for instructional and play purposes. Lanes are set aside for lap swimmers. There is a separate pool for toddlers. In 1986, a heating system was added. The bathhouse consists of dressing rooms with shower and toilet facilities. There is a covered picnic shelter with a propane barbecue grill. A shaded deck was added in 1988 when major renovations were done. A sports pool for water basketball and volley ball were added in 2003.
The entire pool is set aside for lap swimming from 11:30 to 12:30 PM on weekdays. On weekends, the pool opens at 11 AM for lap swimmers ONLY. 1 or 2 lanes are available all day for lap swimming. Non-lap swimmers should not enter the lanes for any reason.
No one may use the pool unless a lifeguard is present and on duty. Please do not talk with a lifeguard who is on duty; direct questions to the guard at the front desk. The guards enforce pool rules, and they have the authority to suspend privileges for continuous or flagrant violation of the rules.LOST AND FOUND:Items may be turned in or claimed at the guard office near the front gate.

Membership in the club is limited to those holding stock in the corporation, one share of stock per family. Application for membership must be approved by the Board and must have an accompanying $35 application fee, after which the applicant is placed on a waiting list. Membership is limited to 310 families. When an applicant comes to the top of the list, he or she pays for a share of stock ($300) and must also pay the yearly membership dues which are set annually by the board.

Persons having contagious diseases, open wounds, infectious conditions or wearing bandages may not use the pool.
The parking area is not confined to the blacktop; it goes beyond the clear gravel into the weedy area. Please do not block other cars when you park. Please remember to drive very slowly through the parking areas to insure the safety of our children.

Members may rent the pool for private parties, either after hours, by rental agreement, or during regular hours by special arrangement (for children 12 and under.) Party Policy and Rental Forms are available from guards or Pool Manager. Plan well in advance to avoid calendar conflicts.
must be kept at a volume that does not disturb others.
Stock Redemption: Application for resignation and redemption of stock must be made by letter to the Board (P.O. Box 835, Blacksburg, VA 24063) before March 1 for the current season to avoid indebtedness for the annual dues. The stock certificate must be returned to the Club, dated, and signed on the back by the person(s) listed on the front of the certificate. A check for the current value of the stock ($300) will be made out to the person(s) to whom the certificate was issued. This check will be sent out after the membership is sold to a replacement member. At the current time, the Club has a long waiting list for membership, and sale will be to the first applicant on the waiting list.

Inactive Stockholders: A Shawnee Swim Club stockholder may choose to become inactive by notifying the Board before March 1 of the year of the year in which he/she wishes to become inactive. An inactive stockholder is not liable for the annual dues and forfeits all privileges of membership until he/she returns to active status. Inactive members do not receive Shawnee Swim Club mailings, and it is the responsibility of the inactive member to keep the Club up-to-date on his address changes. An inactive member may request reinstatement to active status by letter to the Board. Active status will be granted as vacancies occur and will require a reinstatement fee of $50.00 in addition to payment of the annual dues. Since stock transactions take place before March 1, it is recommended that an inactive stockholder who wishes to reactivate should do so by the middle of February of the year in which he/she wishes to reactivate to be assured of having a membership slot available. Payment of the reactivation fee places the name of the inactive stockholder at the top of the waiting list for membership.

If an inactive stockholder decides that he/she wishes to redeem the stock, a letter stating this request is to be sent to the Board with the reinstatement fee of $50.00, along with the stock certificate, dated and signed on the back as outlined in the redemption instructions.

Summer Transfers: Stockholders who do not wish to use their pool privileges for one particular summer but who do not wish to give up their stock nor become inactive, may notify the Club before March 15 of the season in which they do not wish to use their membership and pay a summer transfer fee ($75 as of 2022) The Club will then offer the summer privileges to the first family on the waiting list.

No running on the deck area or forcing people into the water by pushing, shoving or dunking.
Trash bins and recycling containers are available. Please clean up areas that you use, including picnic tables, deck and lawn areas.
March 1 is the deadline for resignation from the Club. A letter of intention to resign, along with the stock certificate dated and signed on the back by the persons listed on the front must be sent to the club by March 1.
If stock is issued in the names of both spouses who later divorce, the stock must be reissued in the name of one of the spouses. The other spouse will be considered as a guest according to the by-laws, but may petition the Board to be moved to the top of the waiting list to purchase the next available membership.
Pool and deck areas are cleared when thunder is heard or lightning seen. Swimmers will be allowed to return 30 minutes after the last sign of the storm. SSC may close indefinitely in case of a prolonged storm. Be prepared to pick up children at the beginning of the storm.

If a member does not wish to use the membership for a summer but does not wish to give up his or her membership, a $75 transfer fee may be paid, accompanied by a letter requesting summer transfer. This must be postmarked no later than March 15.

Lessons are offered by SwimU.

There is no charge for members to use the phone, but calls must be limited to two minutes in length and must be local calls. The pool phone is only in service during the swimming season.
